🐚 About Charnette Labs
Who does Charnette Labs build for? +
Our core focus is the B2B travel trade — tour operators, destination management companies (DMCs), travel representation companies, travel agencies, tourism boards and trade associations. These are the businesses that sell and distribute travel, and they have technology needs a generic agency simply doesn't understand. We also build websites and apps for hotels and lodges directly — the same trade fluency makes us a strong choice there too. We work across the UK, Africa and international markets.
Do you actually understand the travel industry? +
Yes. Charnette Labs was founded by a travel industry professional with years in luxury safari and travel sales. We built RepBud — the sales companion built for travel industry representatives. You won't spend time explaining your world to us. We already know what a FAM trip is, how trade rates and net pricing work, and why a DMC's site has to serve both operator partners and consumer enquiries.
Where is Charnette Labs based? +
Charnette Labs is the trading name of Charnette Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with a London registered address. We support travel trade businesses across the UK, Africa, Australia and internationally.
Why choose Charnette Labs over a generic web agency? +
Because we come from the travel trade. A generic agency needs educating — you'll spend hours in briefing meetings explaining what a DMC is, how the operator-to-agent distribution chain works, why your trade pricing must stay confidential. We already know all of this. That saves you time, money and frustration.
🌊 Website Design
How much does a trade travel website cost? +
Pricing is bespoke to each project — we tailor a proposal after an initial discovery call. We work in GBP, USD or ZAR depending on your business. Get in touch to start the conversation.
How long does it take to build a travel trade website? +
A typical trade website takes 4–8 weeks from briefing to launch. A focused brochure site for a representation company can be live in 4 weeks. A full tour operator platform with itinerary systems and trade-login areas takes 8–12 weeks.
Can I update my website myself? +
Yes. We can build on a CMS that lets you update text, imagery and content yourself. Many clients prefer to leave updates to us as part of their monthly hosting plan — included in our Growth and Pro plans.
Do you build on WordPress? +
We build on the right platform for your needs — which might be a a custom-built static site, a headless CMS, or WordPress depending on your requirements. We'll recommend what's right for you, not what's easiest for us.
Can you integrate trade systems and booking tools? +
Yes. We integrate with reservation systems, itinerary builders, CRM platforms and trade databases — connecting the tools your operation already runs on so partners and clients can work directly through your site.
🔔 Push Notifications
What's the open rate for push notifications vs email? +
Push notifications typically achieve 90%+ open rates compared to 18–22% for marketing emails in travel. That's 4–5x more of your trade contacts actually seeing your message.
Do recipients need to download an app? +
No. Web push notifications work directly through a browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox — on desktop and mobile. No app download required. App push notifications require your own branded app, which we also build.
How much does it cost to send a push notification? +
Once the system is set up, sending push notifications costs nothing per send. There are no per-message fees. You pay a one-time setup fee and optional monthly management.
Is it GDPR compliant? +
Yes. Push notifications require explicit opt-in consent — recipients actively click "Allow" to receive them. This makes them fully GDPR compliant with clear consent on record.
How can push notifications help a travel trade business? +
They give you a direct line to your trade network — agents, partner operators, your own sales team. Use them for availability alerts, new product launches, rate updates, FAM trip invitations and trade news, reaching the people who sell on your behalf the moment it matters, without competing with a crowded inbox.
🦀 App Development
Do I need an app or is a website enough? +
For most trade businesses a strong, fast website is the right starting point. An app becomes valuable when you want offline access, a dedicated trade booking tool, push notifications, or a richer experience for your partners and sales team. We'll give you an honest recommendation.
What types of apps do you build? +
Trade-facing platforms (booking and itinerary tools for operator and agent partners), B2B sales and rep tools, internal operations apps for your team, and partner-facing portals. iOS and Android, built with offline capability where remote connectivity matters.
How much does an app cost? +
Pricing is bespoke to each project — we tailor a proposal after an initial discovery call. We work in GBP, USD or ZAR depending on your business. Get in touch to start the conversation.
🪸 Hosting & Monthly Care
What's included in monthly hosting? +
All plans include global edge CDN hosting, SSL certificate, security monitoring and daily backups. Growth and Pro plans include content update hours, monthly performance reports and priority support. No call centres — direct developer access.
Can you host a site you didn't build? +
Yes — if it's compatible with our hosting infrastructure. We'll review your existing site and let you know. Some legacy systems may need rebuilding first.
What happens if my site goes down? +
You contact us directly. No ticket queue, no chatbot, no call centre. On Pro plans, issues are resolved within 4 business hours. Our edge infrastructure has 99.9%+ uptime globally, so outages are rare.
🗺️ Industries & Specific Situations
Do you work with tourism boards and trade associations? +
Yes. Tourism boards and trade associations have a dual job — promoting a destination or sector to the trade while serving their members. We build platforms that handle both: member directories, trade resources, event and FAM coordination, and destination content that helps operators sell.
Do you work with DMCs? +
Yes. DMC websites have specific needs — trade-facing and consumer-facing content, destination coverage, team bios, itinerary showcases. We understand the B2B dynamics of DMC relationships and build sites that work for both audiences.
We're a small tour operator — is Charnette Labs right for us? +
Absolutely. We're built to support independent operators and boutique trade businesses. In fact, the businesses that benefit most from our work are exactly this — independent, quality-focused operators who need technology that punches above their weight.
What's the connection between Charnette Labs and RepBud? +
RepBud is our flagship product — a sales companion built for travel industry representatives. Charnette Labs is the studio that also builds websites, apps and systems for the travel trade. Both are products of Charnette Ltd.
